Is running bad for your knees?
Great post by The Freshman Physio:
“Recent evidence shows runners had similar age related changes to non runners with knee OA on X-RAY. .They also founds runners reported less symptoms suggesting benefits of running for knee health..This is not a call to get everyone running with knee pain. But certainly do NOT get all your runners to stop and pick up cycling as a new sport..Runners need to be reassured they can continue without fear and may even lead to improvements in symptoms..As always, running needs to be programmed and loaded appropriate to a runners ability and symptoms. And always coupled with an appropriate strengthening program..Running does not increase symptoms or structural progression in people with knee osteoarthritis: data from the osteoarthritis initiative – Lo et al. (2018)”
